Once upon a time

Once upon a time, I was in love and content,
Once upon a time I knew what happiness meant,
Once upon a time, I had never met you.

Five months ago, I took you for granted,
I thought you loved me, or so I wanted,
Four months ago, I found you didn’t care,
And at that point we stopped being a pair.
A month after that, I realized what I’d lost,
And with that I found out the cost.
With you went my heart, my soul, and me.
Two months ago, I found my eyes to see,
I regained my strength, hope, and will.
But my heart, I have not regained still.
